【#1】Welcome to Tokyo Wednesday Club

Writing:Hanna

2026年6月10日

Tokyo Wednesday Club was founded by Hanna. In 2016, the journey began with a distinct lens on Ametora culture through the Instagram account @tokyoheat_. What began as a visual scrapbook expanded in 2021 into a creative studio dedicated to seeking a purposeful existence through design and words.

Take, for instance, our classic button-down shirt. Ametora is a culture of its own: it is an American style originally imported to Japan, then uniquely edited and refined through a tailored local sensibility. This essential piece was crafted to bridge that subculture with the timeless spirit of Japanese craftsmanship, introducing it to a global audience. Expanding this worldview, there is “Books & Travel,” an occasional pop-up bookshop. With the hope of preserving the quiet, enduring ritual of stepping into a local bookstore, the space features a curated selection of English-language titles dedicated to travelers exploring Japan. Through these thoughtful products and spaces, each embodying a singular worldview, my continuous challenge is to empower both the artisans who create and the community that chooses them. Here, it feels fitting to share what sparked this journey and the philosophy behind the messages sent out into the world.

Growing up under the subtle influence of my parents, Ametora was naturally woven into my early childhood. By the time I reached my teens, I found myself instinctively drawn to the worlds of Ivy, Preppy, and Heavy-Duty. This fascination with foreign landscapes grew through a steady diet of fashion, cinema, music, and books, eventually leading me to move to the United States for university, driven by an aspiration to become a female global leader.

Yet, during those four years of student life, looking back at Japan from the outside brought a profound rediscovery: the quiet brilliance of its heritage and the depth of its craftsmanship. Around that same time, a transformative moment came while reading W. David Marx’s Ametora. Learning how the Miyuki-zoku—the iconic 1960s Japanese youth subculture—marked the definitive dawn of modern Japanese menswear, it was impossible not to be struck by their pure, unadulterated passion for clothing. Since then, a vision began to take shape: a desire to see a world where more young people, much like the Miyuki-zoku, choose what they wear and use by genuinely connecting with its design, its fabric, its origin, and the history it carries.

Tokyo Wednesday Club exists to offer this very experience to city girls and city boys across the globe: the process of discovering things and ideas that endure across generations, refining one’s internal taste, and ultimately establishing an authentic personal style.
